Returned proof of the recital secretary’s memorandum

Merrow Salon. A half-sheet pinned inside N. Ardent’s timings book. The typed portion bears no date. Corrections in brown ink.

Mr. Ardent, having examined cylinder No. 14, confirms that the words entered in his notes were spoken in the west alcove by Miss Ryn.

“having examined cylinder No. 14” struck through; above it: “being seated at the service screen.”

“by Miss Ryn” struck through.

I can sign the sentence with these alterations. I heard the words from that direction. I did not see the mouth that spoke them. Miss Ryn’s cough is entered separately because I could see her at the piano when she coughed.

Your clerk says the first alteration makes no difference, as I have since heard the cylinder. It makes the difference between two witnesses and one.

N. Ardent

Below, in a finer hand:

Mr. Fenn — shall I type it again leaving a space for the name?

No answer. Two pinholes through the word “confirms.”
