"description": "A silver pendant of bird form, Continental workmanship of perhaps thirty years' age in 1879 (i.e. circa 1849), substituted by Linnett for the Barlin colombina on the evening of 19 November 1879 and delivered into Mrs. Penrose's drawing-room at Bath on the 21st. The niello chevron is of obtuse angles and narrow strokes, distinguishable on close inspection from the Barlin original; the lower left wing is whole; the Greek inscription is absent. Mrs. Penrose retained it under the firm's settlement of 30 January 1880 as a souvenir of the affair."
