Household supplies inventory, Asher Hall — Sunday morning, 8 April 1923

A foolscap sheet in Miss Vellance's neat round hand, ruled in pencil. The inventory is taken each Sunday by the secretary in company with the housekeeper. Linen, china, plate, lamps, fuel, and miscellaneous returned items. Only the miscellaneous column is reproduced in full; the rest is the usual.

MISCELLANEOUS — found or returned this week:

  • 1 silver tea-strainer, found behind the morning-room kettle, returned to pantry (Friday).
  • 1 boy's catapult, found by Sutton in the lower drive, kept (Saturday).
  • 1 pair gloves, lady's, grey kid, left in the south sitting-room (Saturday tea); not yet claimed.
  • 1 japanned tin hatbox, japanned black, brass clasp loose, no label, found Sunday morning by the under-housemaid in the vestibule of the west passage, the floor being clean to the eye but the box leaving a faint half-circle of garden-mould on the tiles. Returned this morning at her own request to Mrs Asher's dressing-room press. M.V.
  • 3 napkins, blue band, in want of pressing; to laundry.

— M. Vellance, secretarial, Sunday 8th April 1923.
