North Quay Stores storm-damage report, 15 February 1908
Return of loss after the night tide and yard flooding, prepared for the Harbor Relief Board by L. Ward, stores clerk.
Salt Room No. 3 was found unfit for ordinary issue at first bell. Water is reported to have entered below the south sill and crossed the lower bins before the yard watch could clear the channel grates.
Claimed spoiled stock:
Bay salt, sealed barrels: 31 barrels condemned for tide wetting and brine seepage.
Fine salt, blue sacks: 76 burst, clotted, or judged sour by smell.
Rock salt, lower bin: 11 hundredweight written off after contact with floor wash.
No cookhouse ration should be charged against these amounts. Replacement issue is requested before Monday boil, with temporary short measure authorized until relief stock arrives.
Prior dry-room sheets are held at the stores office until a clean copy of this return is entered. Cooper inspection is not required where the loss is by tide spoilage rather than barrel failure.
Signed, L. Ward North Quay Stores
