Cookhouse ration ledger, 17-24 February 1908

North Quay cookhouse salt issue ledger, kept at the ration desk and countersigned by M. Rusk.

Usual allowance carried from prior week: full salt issue for mess kettles, watch bread, and pickling tubs.

17 February: issue reduced by one third on notice of Stores storm loss. Ledger note: claim received from L. Ward, Salt Room No. 3 marked spoiled pending replacement.

18 February: night-watch cook reports weak brine and returned fish. Rusk orders no second issue without written Stores release.

20 February: bread line complaints entered by mess stewards. Rusk initials the reduction and writes: use shortage scale until Ward copy is accepted.

24 February: cookhouse deficit charged to storm loss, not kitchen waste. No wet sacks or spoiled barrels received at cookhouse for inspection.
