Adelphi Rooms gaslight cue sheet, final call, 3 May 1909

Working cue sheet for The Painted Trapdoor, Act IV close, kept at the gas table beside the prompt corner.

Prompt clock at cue 86: 10:45.

Cue 86: bring foots to full white as Cressida reaches center white star. Keep upper terrace practicals low. Lime No. 2 to strike cloak hood and shoulders only; do not pick the face.

Cue 87: after first applause break, hold glare on center mark for eight counts. House will read blue cloak, silver clasp, and raised hand. Face falls in shadow under hood from the rail side.

Cue 88: on Captain Harrow's bow, down-gas by half and kill Lime No. 2. Blackout passage begins when Cressida turns left from the star.

Trap passage window: ten to twelve counts from down-gas to second curtain. Terrace stone No. 4 may be lifted once foots are below half. Side passage lamp to be shaded until the north door is shut.

Timing note in R.B.'s hand:

Do not bring face light back before second curtain. If principal business is delayed, keep the house on cloak and hand until the call clears.

Later pencil check:

Window sufficient for trapdoor, stair, and north passage if the cloaked figure holds center until blackout.
