*Memorandum of ye Losse of ye Hopewell of Tynemouth, Jn. Marwood Mr.*
Reported in person by ye sayd Mr at this House this 17th day of October, 1673, before ye undermentioned Brethren.
Vessel. — A hoy of about lx tonnes, built South Shields a° 1664, sheathed last 1671, late of ye coale trade London & back.
Voyage. — Light from Wapping ye 4th instant, in ballast of Thames shingle (xij chaldron). Bound homeward, no freight engaged.
Casualtie. — Sett downe upon ye North end of ye Long Sand by a south wind risinge in ye second watch ye 11th instant, vessel layed over and bilged before ye flood. Hull a totall losse. Spars and rigging cutt away by ye boate. Ballast lost with ye hull.
Lives. — None aboard save ye master, two men, & a boy. All four taken off into ye master's owne boate ye morninge followinge by ye Tilbury smacke Margett of Gravesend. None lost.
Stores reported lost. — Two compasses, one lead, one quarter-cable new, three barrels of pitch (full), three of tar (broach'd), one anchor (small), one suite of sayles (much used). To be made good against ye underwritynge of Mr Jno. Fielding, merchant, of Watlinge Streete in London, in summa £xxxij. xs.
Of ye freight. — None. Ye sayd Mr declarynge upon his oath that no goods were laden, and that ye said voyage was undertaken in ballast onely. Soe certified.

Cf. ye Custome House booke of London, 6° Octobr. last — xij chaldron coale fetched ashore at ye Hermitage stayres ye 3d instant ag^st ye said vessel, dewties paid. Not enterd here.
