Supplies on hand from the disbursement of Monday last, 8 May, not entered to the kitchen ledger and not consumed in this house: eleven hundred dollars even, eleven notes of one hundred dollars, Series of nineteen fourteen, in a brown envelope tied with a black ribbon, on the third shelf of the linen-press behind Mrs. Hume's table linen for Sundays. counted at the kitchen door at eight in the evening of Friday the 5th of May by the housekeeper of this house, in the presence of Mr. Standard's man. signed for by the housekeeper of this house. delivered upstairs at the housekeeper's earliest convenience. — M.C.

The brown envelope on the third shelf of the linen-press does not enter the kitchen ledger because the kitchen ledger has no column for what the housekeeper has signed for and what the household has not consumed. The prayer-book has a column the kitchen ledger does not.
