The Principal came down. Dr Greenwell, at his April visitation, allowed Pegg’s off-book pottage & dripping retroactively — three-and-fourpence entered into Easter battels for the seven weeks he’d fed the servitor lad Acres off ye dresser, standing, hys hands blackt with ye goinge upp & downe of stayres. The cooke, who cannot write, marks receipt with the same ✕ he uses in the Buttery Book. And Greenwell writes in his own hand beneath: *ye cooke’s allowance to stande a permanent lyne in ye Battels hereafter.*

Also on the leaf: Sir T. Lutterell of Dunster’s letter refusing the rest of his nephew’s reckoning. Mr Bourchier’s sack line reads *none this terme, by his owne request* — the fellow has evidently taken the hint. The nephew is gone by vij May, his chamber sealed, xij s. iiij d. in the booke of doubtfulls.
